Members Facilitate A Day of Business Plan Learning, Culminating in Presentation
San Francisco, May 12, 2008—The IdeaHive, a group affiliated with the GreenMBA program at Dominican University of California, conducted its first annual Business Plan Jam on May 10 on the Dominican campus. Some three dozen students and GMBA faculty members participated in the full-day event, which was designed to give current GreenMBA students experience in business plan idea generation, refinement, and development.
In the morning, Idea Hive colleagues used systemic and critical thinking techniques with the group to generate four new business ideas. A visioning exercise posited a scenario in which it is the year 2015, personal vehicles are not permitted, true cost accounting is accepted practice, and water levels have risen by three feet. Breakout groups formed around each of the business ideas, which were then refined with marketing and finance strategies in the afternoon. At the end of the day, each group presented a simple business plan to the assembled participants, using a PowerPoint template that had been prepared by IdeaHive members. Faculty members John Stayton, Jane Lorand and Ed Quevedo were present to guide and critique the groups’ efforts. Participant feedback was extremely positive, pointing in particular to the energy, organization and power of group creativity.
The Idea Hive was founded by a group of individuals within the Green MBA program at Dominican University of California, who share a common purpose: to transform business practices to reflect triple top line thinking – people, profit, planet.
